Below are some helpful tips on what to bring, finding parking, accessing the building, and finding us.

What to bring

Feel free to bring a project or get inspiration from others! If you are a beginner and would like to borrow our starter kit, we recommend you bring a laptop.

Where to Park

You can park across the street from The Ion building in the "Red Lot", 4211 Fannin Street. Parking is free for 3 hours, we will provide parking validation for additional time.

Press the Button

The doors to the Ion building are locked on the weekends. To the right of the front doors is a RED call button. Press it and let security know you are here for the Robotics Group, they will buzz you in.

Finding the Prototyping Lab

Once you enter the main building, the Ion Prototyping lab in the back right corner of the first floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. I'm a total beginner, can I still attend?

Absolutely, many of our attendees first learned hardware by attending our meetings! Begin your journey by borrowing our starter kit, or get inspired by watching other people's projects (ask questions ❤️)

2. Is food provided?

We don't provide food, however, around 6pm many folks will take the train to a local resturant for a group dinner. You're welcome to join!

3. What is the age limit for participant?

We welcome robotics enthusiasts of all ages! We recommend that parents purchase a starter kit to work together with younger children, we're happy to help parent's troublshoot as needed.

4. Can we use the equipment in the Ion Prototyping Lab?

Limited tool access is available during the event. Our Event Volunteers can help complete 3d printing and laser cutting tasks for your robotics project. Visit the Ion Prototyping Lab website for more information about membership & training courses offered.
